PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THIS
Equifax, one of the 3 consumer rating agencies (along with Experian and TransUnion), announced yesterday that it was the victim of one of the largest computer hacks ever. More than half of all Americans may be affected.
The thieves may have gotten the 4 critical security items needed for identity theft: your Social Security number, your drivers license information, your date of birth and your address.
Equifax is offering two things: they can let you know if you were in the affected group and they will provide you with 1 year of free account protection. Yeah, I know, the guys who were hacked are offering you protection from the miseries of being hacked? Heck, but it's a good first step.
You can enroll in the Trusted ID program which identity theft protection and credit monitoring. Be aware that this is just for 1 year; thieves can be patient and wait!
Once you sign in you'll receive a message giving you an enrollment date (a few days) and instructions to go to this site on that day: faq.trustedidpremier.com
