Get your flu shot

Terrorism scares all of us. But the likelihood of being struck by lightning is greater than being injured or killed in a terror event. The headlines and pictures strike fear -- hence the term "terrorism." But what is more terrifying are the things that can hurt you that are easy to avoid. I recall the only time I was injured in a car accident was the evening I decided not to wear a seat belt! I was 13 and I'll never repeat that mistake! Today I make sure to get my seasonal flu shot.

Each year more than 35,000 Americans die from influenza and as many as 200,000 are hospitalized. All because they didn't receive a simple flu shot. To be fair, flu shots don't work for everyone. But even when they aren't 100% effective they usually result in a shorter illness or less severe symptoms.

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) covers the shot if you visit your health provider. If that's not convenient, Costco, Sam's Club, CVS, etc. will generally charge no more than $15.
